It was again cold and windy for our visit to Kitty Hawk. Inside were replica Wright aircraft and other exhibits.
Outside is the field where Wilbur and Orville made their four flights on Dec 17, 1903. The first flight was only 120 and the last was 852 feet. The markers below give you an idea of what that looks like.
Our other stop today was at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site in Manteo. This is the site of Roanoke Colony also known as the Lost Colony, the first English settlement in the United States. Roanoke Island is also the place where Reginald Fessenden received the first audio radio broadcast transmitted from Cape Hatteras.
OBX Campground has a great location, relatively new. Bath house clean and well kept.
