There’s no straight line from Fountain Hills to Usery Mountain Park so we decided to take the road less traveled. Many times there are more and better views along the way. Usery has abundant (for desert areas) flora compared to McDowell Mountain and we enjoyed our time hiking the trails and marveling at the differences. The weather was warm and this had been a very wet winter so we got to see some of it in bloom, ocotillo and this hedgehog cactus on the Chainfruit Trail.
Chainfruit and Teddy Bear cholla seemed to be the most prevalent and we agreed that the trail was appropriately named.
