This park is in Louisiana across the Mississippi River from Natchez, MS. The park is right on the river, and there is a walkway on the levee for strolling and watching the barges move cargo, as well as looking across at Natchez.

We drove into Natchez and decided to tour Longwood mansion, a huge octagonal house.

Building started not long before the civil war. The bricks were made on site, and most of the lumber was harvested locally. The outside was completed, but the inside was never finished. All 3 floors are just a shell. Most of the windows and trim were ordered from northern states or overseas and never arrived due to the war.

The ground floor, originally intended as a basement, was finished as temporary living space, but became the family’s permanent home. The gift shop had mayhaw jelly – score!
