With a one-day pause in the rain we made a break for another COE campground, Sandy Creek Park, in Jasper. Unfortunately, the last few day had given us about five inches of rain. To make matters worse, as we made our way through Woodville, we were passed by a number of police cars. As we approached the US-190 bridge across Steinhagen Lake, traffic was stopped and we were informed that the bridge was closed due to an accident. We started out on what was to be an hour-long detour down the west side and back up the east side of the lake. After nearly completing our scenic tour of Woodville, Spurger, Mt Union, Magnolia Springs and Beech Grove, we got to within a mile or two of the campground and found the road flooded. A switch to plan B at that point led us to the State Park just off the highway. It too was suffering from the rain but at least the campground was open and the sites were above water. This was also a place that would have been a very good place to spend time under non-flood conditions.
