Jonathan Dickinson does prescribed burns as way cut down on scrub and to restore a more natural forest. While this is a good thing, it does take a little bit to get used to the look of the landscape that is left behind. It does look exactly like a park that has recently had a severe fire. We are in the River Campground. Nice sites and clean bathrooms.
Update: 5 Dec 2015
The River Campground is closed for renovations this time and we are in the Pine Grove Campground. This loop is new and during our last visit, looked like a concrete resort minus the concrete. It gets a lot of traffic noise since it is right beside US-1. Bathrooms were clean and new. One of the park employees remembered us from our last visit when we mentioned the boys. They do attract attention.
It has been raining heavily almost constantly (sometimes sustained, wind-blown horizontal downpours) since our arrival and there is almost no evidence of any flooding. There’s a mountain bike race here today. I can’t imagine what that’s going to look like with all this rain.
