We were pretty certain that we hadn’t been here before. We usually overnight at Fort Toulouse-Fort Jackson when in the area but the line between rain and snow was running SW to NE just north of Montgomery and we decided we’d be much better off below that line.
We pulled up to the little guard shack during a short break in the rain and walked up to the window. As the paperwork was being processed we both started getting that “deja vu all over again” feeling that Yogi Berra so aptly described. An older couple conversing with the the lady on duty got up to leave and exited through the back door. This exact scene had played out at DeWayne Hayes COE Campground in Columbus, MS back in February. Don’t know if it was the same three people but we both let out hearty laughs as soon as the doors were closed when we got back in the van.
All sites in the open section were level concrete and we were happy to have it. It rained hard all through the night and the snow and ice that the weather service had promised arrived before we were out in the morning. The good news was that we were heading south and the snow was moving east. We saw our last ice before we reached US-331 in Highland Home.
The bathrooms were clean but a bit dated. Plenty of hot water for showers and laundry.
