We chose this park because it was just about as close to Ohio as we wanted to be in December. We rented a state park cabin so that Bob and the birds had a place to stay while I took the van to the Airstream factory service facility.
The cabin was tucked into the side of a little valley. There was plenty of wildlife in the area, including a bunch of deer.
Meanwhile, inside the cabin, the imported wildlife were restless. They particularly disapproved of a large mirror over the sink (it had very scary birds inside!). In fact, the whole place was scary, until they found their shirt and tunneled into it.
The park itself has a lodge, a good sized collection of cabins, and a campground. There were several walking trails, although the cold and previous rain detracted from our enjoyment of them. One short trail terminated at a dam and lock on the Kentucky river, just a bit upstream of its confluence with the Ohio at Carrollton. We were hoping to see some traffic but were disappointed. The rather narrow lock didn’t appear to be manned at our visit.
On our way south, we were repeatedly informed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet that Santa has eyes everywhere!
