Beautiful park in a remote area on the Chesapeake Bay. Get your supplies before you get here. It’s ten miles to North East or thirteen miles to Elkton. Our site was in the Chester Loop. Nice campground.
A short drive and hike takes you to the southern end of Turkey Point and the Turkey Point Lighthouse. Built in 1833 by John Donahoo, the lighthouse sits on a 100 ft bluff overlooking the bay. It was electrified in 1943 using a single 100-watt light bulb. It also has the distinction of having the most female light keepers (four) on the Chesapeake Bay, the last being Fannie Mae Salter who retired in 1948.
Tours are available on weekend. Parking lot for the lighthouse is small so get there early.
