Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, Micanopy, Florida

This enormous park is located just south of Gainesville. It encompasses upland forest and a flat grassy prairie. In the rainy season the prairie floods; it was flooded when we visited. 

The park is known for its wildlife. We saw 2 bald eagles, deer, wild horses and wild cattle. No photos, because they were invisible without binoculars. Birds spotted were anhingas, egrets, and herons. The park also has a herd of bison that we couldn’t find.

Nice campground. Clean bathrooms with the biggest bathroom fans we’ve ever seen…
